Frankreich ist der größte Staat in Europa und teilt seine Grenze mit Belgien, Luxemburg, Deutschland, die Schweiz, Italien, Monaco, Spanien, Andorra, an die Nordsee, an den Atlantik und an das Mittelmeer. Es ist das meistbesuchte Land der Welt und fasziniert durch sein Essen, seine Weine, Kultur und Landschaften.
Mit Abstand wichtigste und größte Stadt in Frankreich ist die Hauptstadt Paris mit rund 12 Millionen Einwohnern im gesamten Großraum. Architektonischen Spuren in Frankreich hinterließen die Römer vor allem in Südostfrankreich, wie beispielsweise das Amphitheater von Nîmes oder die Pont du Gard. Zu den bedeutendsten Bauwerken während der Zeit des Barocks zählen der Louvre und Schloss Versailles, diese wurden auch zu vorbildern für Bauwerke im Ausland, etwa Schloss Sanssouci. Diese und weitere eindrucksvollen und kulturellen Bereicherungen sind ein Grund, warum eine Vielzahl von Ansichtskarten im Umlauf gekommen sind.
Im Geschäftsleben ist Englisch üblich, im Allgemeinen spricht man in Frankreich aber nicht gerne eine fremde Sprache. Und noch eine Eigenart ist in Frankreich anzutreffen: Franzosen sind am liebsten unter sich und verbringen ihren Urlaub vorzugsweise im eigenen Land.
