Das Königreich Belgien liegt in Westeuropa und grenzt an die Niederlande, an Deutschland, Luxemburg und Frankreich.
Vor allem Deutsche, Briten, Luxemburger, Franzosen und Niederländer besuchen Belgien und versandten unzählige Postkarten in ihre Heimat. In Westflandern stehen noch viele alte Kriegsdenkmäler und Kriegsfriedhöfe. Daneben sind die Ferienbadeorte an der belgischen Nordseeküste sehr beliebt. Die Stadt Brügge ist aber wahrscheinlich die Stadt mit dem größten Tourismus. Sie wird gelegentlich Venedig des Nordens genannt.
Da sich die ehemals von Kohle- und Stahlindustrie geprägten wallonischen Regionen in einer Rezessionsphase befinden, ist die Arbeitslosigkeit dort im Vergleich zu den flämischen Regionen deutlich erhöht und ein Grund von regionalen Konflikten.
