Die Republik Türkei ist ein Staat in Asien und Europa. Seine Nachbarländer sind Griechenland, Bulgarien, Georgien, Armenien, Aserbaidschan, der Iran, der Irak und Syrien. Die Türkische Republik Zypern ist nicht weit entfernt. Obwohl Ankara seit 1923 als Hauptstadt gilt, ist Istanbul durch seine lange zurück liegende Geschichte kulturell von antiken, mittelalterlichen, neuzeitlichen und modernen Baustilen geprägt, wie zahlreiche Ansichtskarten andeuten.
