Der Staat Togo befindet sich in Westafrika und grenzt an Ghana, Benin und Burkina Faso. Bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war Togo eine deutsche Kolonie, danach unter der französischen Verwaltung. In der Hauptstadt Lomé findet man noch zahlreiche Gebäude aus der Kolonialzeit. Postkarten mit dem Motiv Togo sind deshalb überwiegend auf französisch.
“To” bedeutet in der Sprache der Ewe Wasser und “go” bedeutet Ufer.
