Madagaskar ist die zweitgrößte Insel der Welt und liegt östlich von Mosambik. Neben den tropischen Stränden und dem glasklaren Wasser mit artenreichen Korallenriffen besitzt die Insel einen dichten Regenwald mit unzähligen seltenen Tierarten. Volkstypen waren gern versendete Postkarten.
Von der einst komplett bewaldeten Fläche sind nur noch 4 Prozent übrig.
