Der westafrikanische Staat Senegal grenzt an die Nachbarstaaten Gambia, Guinea und Guinea-Bissau, Mauretanien und Mali. Verschiedenste Palmenarten, ruhige, traumhafte Ausblicke und die ursprüngliche Natur bestimmen den größten Teil des Landschaftsbildes. Die Hauptstadt Dakar war während der französischen Kolonialzeit eine wichtige Stadt, die als Ansichtskarten – Motive in die ganze Welt verschickt wurden.
Durch die Atlantikküste, die sich westlich des Landes erstreckt, basiert die senegalesische Küche in erster Linie auf Fisch.
